·Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail

28-year-old woman from Cambridge, MA · party of 2

Aishwarya Shrotri, 28, slipped on the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail while ascending, injuring one leg, then slipped again on an icy stretch while attempting to descend, injuring her other leg. She was approximately 1.6 miles from the Cog Railway Base Station parking lot and unable to descend under her own power. Rescue personnel carried her out via litter, arriving at the trailhead at 9:30 p.m.

What we can learn

NH Fish and Game noted that Shrotri's lack of preparedness—including improper footwear and unpreparedness for snow and icy upper-elevation conditions—was the primary contributing factor, and reminded hikers to think ahead, make safe decisions, and pack the ten essentials.
