Rescue — Dry River Trail, Apr 10, 2005

32-year-old male from Carlisle, Massachusetts

John Jackson, 32, began a two-day solo hike on the Dry River Trail in the Crawford Notch area on April 10, 2005, and failed to return as expected on Monday night. He was reported missing Monday night and NH Fish and Game officers searched through the night and into Tuesday morning amid late-season snow squalls. Jackson was found on Tuesday morning, April 12, tired and cold but unharmed.

What we can learn

It's not advisable to hike alone, but hikers should let someone know when and where they are planning to hike and when they are expected home. Weather and trail conditions in the White Mountains are unpredictable and hikers must be prepared for just about anything.
