On December 30, 2022, ice climber James Lawrence was struck in the head by falling ice while climbing Willey's Slide in Hart's Location. Nearby climbers from another group assisted in lowering him to the base of the slide and down the trail. He was transported to Memorial Hospital in North Conway by ambulance.
