“Beautiful cooler day to be in the mountains! There is no longer any trace of snow/ice. There are areas of mud and running water, but they were easy enough to navigate. Some of the rock scrambles near the peak of North Kinsman were a bit wet/slick, but there were also dry rock and tree branches handy nearby. If you haven't yet ventured to Bald Peak, it's worth exploring.”
Trail: Mt. Kinsman Trail, Kinsman Ridge Trail, Bald Peak Spur
Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Wet/Sticky, Mud - Significant, Snow - Spring Snow, Slush, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
“This past weekend's spring snow started about a quarter mile past Bald Peak trail junction, never more than two inches and melting quickly. Up along the ridge, there is a couple of inches of matted down sloppy snow over the old monorail. Snow is sticky and slippery, but you can do this whole route in boots with care. I had on rock spikes to move faster (put them on a few tenths of a mile below the junction with Kinsman Ridge Trail), and it was just cold enough for no balling up. Soggy late morning giving way to afternoon sunshine. Expect wet and slippery conditions in some areas as the recent snow melts away. If you have a dog, they will have a blast!”

Rising to 2,465 feet in the Kinsman Range of New Hampshire's White Mountains, this rewarding moderate summit offers hikers a genuine above-treeline experience without the demands of the higher peaks. The open rocky summit delivers panoramic views across the surrounding landscape, making the effort well worthwhile. As a member of the 52 With a View (52 WAV) peak list, it attracts peak baggers seeking summits that combine accessibility with meaningful scenery. The trail character is typical of New Hampshire's smaller ranges — rooted and rocky in sections, but manageable for hikers with basic fitness and appropriate footwear. Its position within the Kinsman Range provides scenic context alongside neighboring peaks, and the exposed summit cap gives hikers a satisfying taste of true alpine character. This is an excellent choice for those building experience in the White Mountains or working through the 52 WAV list.
