Avoid entirely on Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon offers the best window as the cold front clears, high pressure builds, and winds gradually ease. Early Wednesday still carries risk from lingering showers, thunderstorms, and elevated winds — wait for confirmation of clearing before committing. Fair conditions are expected Wednesday night and potentially into Thursday.
Trail: Tuckerman Ravine Trail : Boott Spur Trail : Davis Path : Camel Trail : Crawford Path : Monroe Loop
Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
“Ascended via Boott Spur Trail up to the Davis Path and then downhill on the Camel Trail and Crawford Path to the hut (lose about 500' of elevation from Boott Spur). Hiked up and back to Mt Monroe. Then the steady climb up to Mt Washington. Descended via Tuckerman Ravine Trail. Most surfaces were dry today. Some water running on/across the Tuckerman Ravine Trail on the headwall. No difficult ledge scrambles on this route. Lots of flora on the moist Tuckerman Ravine headwall; Arnica, Great Angelica, Mountain Avens, False Hellebore, and Pale Painted Cup. Saw Bunchberries and Labrador Tea in the Alpine Zone. Orange Hawkweed near Hermit Shelter. A bear was spotted in Tuckerman Ravine in the AM by one hiker. Great views from all areas above tree line as well as at outlooks just off the Boott Spur Trail and one rock ledge on the Boott Spur Trail with a great look into Huntington Ravine. Met many hikers today. One hiker was originally from Belarus. Met Canadian hikers, Presidential Range traversers, a group on Northeastern University students, two hikers from Whitinsville MA, a father & daughter from Naperville Illinois, and a former Lake of the Clouds croo member. Had a good conversation with Mackenna for a good portion of the descent on the Tuckerman Ravine Trail. Excellent weather for the high peaks.”
Trail: Webster Cliff Trail, Crawford Path, Eisenhower Loop, Monroe Loop
Conditions: Dry Trail
“I started the morning from the Mizpah Spring Hut and hiked the southern Presidential Range. It is a steep, rocky climb from the hut to Pierce. I took the Mt Eisenhower loop trail over Eisenhower, and the Mt Monore loop trail over Little Monroe and up to Monroe. From the summit of Monroe I turned around, went back over Little Monroe, and continued on the Crawford Path back to 302. Eisenhower had some small scrambles on both sides. Both Little Monroe and Monroe have some large boulders to hop across. Mt. Clinton Rd. was closed for paving so I didn't consider the Edmands Path for my descent; otherwise this could be a good option. The weather was amazing: sunny, warm, low wind; a wonderful day on the southern Presidential Range! I'll write a blog post and create a video of this hike soon.”
Trail: Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail, Crawford Path, Monroe Loop, Gulfside, Cog Rail Trail
Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
“This was a DAY! We knew the weather was supposed to be dreamy and it was. The summits were in the clouds on our drive in but the clouds lifted and the winds were gentle. It was a PRESI day! The new re-route for the Ammo trail is a circuitous and muddy route. It just meanders all over the place and by the time we reached the Gem Pool I was sure the weekend had passed and it was now Monday. The steeps on Ammo were mostly dry with some areas of wet rock. Crawford Path and the Monroe Loop were both dry and the footing was excellent. Gulfside was also dry and made for pleasant walking. The descent along the cog is what it is. Steep and loose. We just watched our footing and chatted up a storm to distract ourselves. This was a stellar day to celebrate Lynn gridding out June for her over 60 grid. And the icing on the cake was bumping into Donna and Andrea in the basement of the visitors center where all the gridiots were hanging out to hide from the far too peopley area upstairs.”

63-year-old male from Friendsville, PA
On September 11, 2024, Leonard Laky, 63, was found unconscious on the Mount Monroe Loop Trail approximately 0.2 miles north of the summit of Mt. Monroe. AMC hut personnel, a medical doctor, and Baltimore City Fire Department personnel rendered aid and carried him to Lakes of the Clouds Hut. An Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter transported him to Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital; the cause of his condition—whether a fall with head injury or another medical emergency—was unclear at time of release.
