Best Hiking Window
Sunday offers the best window of the next 48 hours — precipitation probability drops to 50% and temperatures improve slightly. An early morning start Sunday takes advantage of the longest possible daylight (over 15 hours) and avoids any afternoon instability. Monday improves further but remains overcast with some precipitation chance.

“Great views from Owl's Head and there were some views at Martha's summit (someone had cut down some of the tree's blocking the presidential view) and the path that runs past the old fire tower base. Ran into 3 other hikers on the trail.”

“I am adding a trail report to alert flower lovers that the trilliums and trout lilies are set for a major bloom, probably on the next warm day. The plants look developed and healthy and ready to show off. This is most prevalent in the middle part of the route (not so much at the summit top). It was my first time up there and I was worried it might be too hard, too steep, too icy. But it was a reasonable stair climber type hike. First mile or so is muddy and wet but passable down the center of the trail most of the time. Second mile is a steady ramp (reminded me of Tecumseh) but not all that rocky so easier than Liberty or Cannon. Very last part near the top got steep sort of like Tremont but no ice, only patchy snow on top of pine needles. I wore microspikes up there to feel safe but I'd guess many people would not bother. It was raining with a cold, harsh wind; so I did not continue to Martha's Mile. Still got views of the Presidential Range. Nice birds on the way up but they all took cover during my rainy descent.”
Trail: Cherry Mountain Trail, Martha's Mile
Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Snow - Spring Snow
“Dry trail to about 2,900’ when patchy snow begins. By the time one reaches the ridge, there are more consistent stretches of a little bit of snow. It’s not monorail—clearly this melted out and then picked up some snow last weekend—but it’s intermittent thin, slushy patches. The ledges going up Owl’s Head are mildly spicy as there’s some ice and packed snow on them. I bare booted the entire way and IMHO that’s the easiest thing to do, but I did see a couple of people wearing rock spikes over to Owl’s Head. Either option is definitely doable. Great hike and awesome views from both Mt. Martha and Owl’s Head. I’ve never done these before and definitely enjoyed them.”

Located in the Cherry-Dartmouth range of the White Mountains, this remote peak sits near the headwaters of the Wild River and requires significant effort to reach. The approach involves a long bushwhack through dense boreal forest, as no maintained trail leads to the summit — a characteristic that earns its Difficult rating on the 52 With A View list. The wooded summit itself offers limited views, but the journey rewards hikers with true backcountry solitude and a sense of genuine wilderness navigation. Not to be confused with the more prominent Owl's Head in the Pemigewasset Wilderness, this Carroll County summit demands solid map and compass skills and comfort with off-trail travel. The surrounding terrain features typical northern hardwood and spruce-fir forest, with stream crossings and rugged footing that add to the challenge. Best suited for experienced hikers comfortable with route-finding.
