On September 29, 2026, a 42-year-old hiker fell and suffered an injury preventing him from walking, about 0.5 miles from the trailhead on the Artist Bluff and Bald Mountain Loop Trail in Franconia. After a Conservation Officer evaluated the injury and the wet, slippery terrain, PEMI Valley Search and Rescue and other officers carried him out in a litter to the trailhead at 3:29 p.m. He was then taken by Littleton Ambulance to Littleton Regional Hospital.
