Ken Hyman, of Sharon, MA, sustained a severe lower-leg injury after jumping on wet rocks at Franconia Falls on June 22, 2023. He was stranded on the opposite side of the river due to limited cell coverage; two companions hiked approximately 0.5 miles before reaching enough signal to contact 911 by text. Conservation Officers and Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team members reached Hyman at 5:45 p.m. and carried him to the trailhead by 7:10 p.m., where he was transported to Littleton Regional Healthcare.
