On June 9, 2023, Sarah Zettler, 47, fell face-first into the rocky bank of a stream while crossing it on the Rattle River Trail after one of her trekking poles broke. She suffered lacerations, loss of consciousness, and injuries to her arm and leg. Conservation Officers and AVSAR volunteers carried her out via litter and she was transported to Androscoggin Valley Hospital.
