Daniel Sweet, 62, of Hammond, NY

On July 22, 2025, Daniel Sweet, 62, of Hammond, NY, became unresponsive while hiking solo on the Rattle River Trail in Shelburne, approximately 3 miles from the nearest road. A bystander witnessed the emergency, called 911, and began CPR. An Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter extracted Sweet and transported him to Gorham EMS, but he was pronounced dead.
