Monday or Tuesday morning through early afternoon offer the best conditions — dry trails, warm temperatures, and minimal precipitation risk. Wednesday carries a higher chance of rain and should be approached with a rain layer ready.
Trail: Mt. Roberts Trail
Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
“Lots of signs of recent storms, leaves and branches down, we cleaned up some woody debris that we encountered. Looks like lots of water ran over the carriage roads in spots from the rain, may be a future erosion problem. Flowers galore: pink lady slippers, columbine, bastard toad flax (actual name), false sassparilla, blue bead lily and more! A few spots of snow off trail in the woods in the last tenth before summit. Great views even on a gray day. Probably saw about 10 people on trail today. Lowers lots actually had more cars so other trails may have been busier.”
Trail: Mt. Roberts Trail, High Ridge Trail, Faraway Mountain Trail
Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
“Mostly dry on the trail with some icy spots 1/8th of a mile from the summit. Micro spikes worked well. The high ridge trail still has quite a few areas with monorails with a mix of blue ice, could inches of granular snow and in some spot knee deep post holes. The Faraway Mtn trail was 95% dry trail. All of the water crossings were rock hoppable.”
Trail: Mt. Roberts Trail
Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
“I did not bring along my Hillsounds with the thinking that the most expansive icy areas would be in the flat hollow between the last lookout to the lake and the top. I was thinking careful foot placement would be ok. There was patchy snow/ice from the trailhead up to the last view of Lake Winnipesaukee. Easy to navigate this. The problem was that the expansive icy area went beyond the flat area going somewhat uphill for a ways. It is way too icy to go safely up/down this part and traction is the only way to navigate all this.”

Rising to 2,582 feet in the Ossipee Range of central New Hampshire, this moderate summit offers hikers a rewarding experience within a quieter, less-trafficked corner of the state. The Ossipee Range is a geologically distinct circular mountain range formed from an ancient volcanic ring dike system, giving the area a unique character compared to the granite peaks of the White Mountains. Trails to the summit wind through pleasant mixed forest, and while the peak remains largely wooded at the top, partial viewpoints reward those who explore the upper reaches. As a member of the 52 With A View list, the mountain delivers enough scenic interest to justify the moderate effort required. The relatively accessible terrain makes it suitable for hikers of intermediate ability, and its location within the Ossipees provides opportunities to combine it with other nearby peaks for a fuller exploration of this underappreciated range.
