Conditions are poor throughout Saturday and Sunday, with precipitation forecast at 98% Saturday and 58% Sunday. Postponing until at least Monday or later is strongly recommended.
Trail: Stinson Mountain Trail
Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
“Met 5 other hikers on the trail. The summit had great views. Took the small side path from the snowmobile trail just before the summit to get to the Stinson lake overlook. Great views and got lucky and missed the showers, could see the storm clouds and showers from the summit.”
Trail: Stinson Mountain Trail
Conditions: Wet Trail, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Small Patches
“spotty areas of snow that get more dense as you get higher up. small bit of monorailing here and there. Took the hiking trails up and the snowmobile trails down. Snow was generally very solid so no concerns about post holing. Did the first 3/4 mile bare booted but put on microspikes to the top from there to make things easier. Similar on the way down. Seems like some of these chunks of snow could be here for a couple more weeks. Also of note there was some flowing water on the lower half of the trail which resulted in some areas of mud too, not a problem with waterproof boots. All in conditions may have been more favorable as it had dropped into the 20s overnight so everything seemed to be hardened up.”
Trail: Stinson Mountain Trail
Conditions: Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Postholes
“Logging road is a tody way up and down. The trail was trickier, very narrow compacted area with post holes aplenty. We barebooted, and didnt slip on aurface but would have preferred snowshoes to not fall in. running water at the bottom of some post holes made it less fun. a couple red squirrels, enjoying looking out for the fantastic woodpeckered-trees, and see how many you can find!”

Rising to 2,900 feet in the Stinson Range of central New Hampshire, this Rumney-area summit offers a rewarding moderate hike well-suited to hikers building experience or seeking a manageable day out. The primary route via the Stinson Mountain Trail gains elevation steadily through pleasant hardwood and mixed forest before opening onto a rocky, partially open summit with satisfying views of the surrounding lakes region, including Stinson Lake directly below. The exposure is limited but the summit ledges provide enough open sky to make the climb feel worthwhile. As a member of the 52 With A View (52 WAV) peak list, it draws hikers working through that popular New Hampshire collection of sub-4,000-foot summits recognized for their scenic payoffs. The relatively modest elevation and well-defined trail make it accessible without sacrificing the sense of accomplishment that comes with reaching a true named summit.
