Rescue — Arethusa Falls Trail, Nov 20, 2006
52-year-old woman from Swanton, Vermont · party of 2
Deborah Chrysler, age 52, slipped and suffered an injury while day hiking on the Arethusa Falls Trail in Crawford Notch State Park on November 20, 2006. Her husband ran approximately a mile down the trail to call for help, and NH Fish and Game Conservation Officers, White Mountain National Forest personnel, and SOLO responded. Rescuers carried her out over approximately 3 hours in dark, cold conditions with snow flurries, and she was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
What we can learn
Be prepared with warm clothing and a flashlight even for day hikes, and equip yourself with proper footgear, because wet autumn leaves can be very slick.
