Four young hikers set out at 5:00 p.m. on the Attitash Mountain Trail without a map, backpacks, or lights, mistakenly believing it was a loop trail. As darkness fell they lost the trail and stopped near Lucy Brook, calling for help via cell phone at around 9:00 p.m. Two conservation officers located them 2.8 miles from the trailhead at 11:30 p.m. and escorted them out by 1:00 a.m.
