On May 12, 2009, two 21-year-old women from Maine began a day hike on the Baldface Circle Trail around 2 p.m. with no trail map or overnight gear and cell phones with no signal in the area. They missed an intersection and ended up on the Wild River Trail, spending the night at a campsite with the help of another hiker. On May 13, they were walked out by searchers and were found in good condition.
