Fatality — Little Haystack Mountain, May 8, 2008

28-year-old woman from Shanghai, China, hiking with husband, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law · party of 4

Shu Qin, age 28, was struck and killed by a large boulder that broke loose from Cloudland Falls on the Falling Waters Trail in Franconia Notch on May 8, 2008. She and her brother-in-law had reached the third waterfall approximately 1.5 miles up the trail when the rock struck her. Conservation Officers, Pemigewasset Valley Search & Rescue, and AMC responded; Qin was carried out and pronounced dead at Littleton Hospital.
