On October 8, 2026, at about 5:15 p.m., a 72-year-old hiker called for help with a medical emergency approximately 2 miles from the Piper Trailhead on Mount Chocorua. Fish and Game Conservation Officers, Conway Fire and Rescue, and the U.S. Forest Service responded. He hiked out with assistance, met a Conway ambulance at about 7:55 p.m., and was taken to Memorial Hospital in Conway.
