a 74-year-old man from Abington, MA

On October 19, 2026, a hiker fell and injured his ankle on the Champney Falls Trail on Mt. Chocorua in Albany and was unable to walk. His son called 911, and Fish and Game Conservation Officers, Lakes Region Search and Rescue, and the U.S. Forest Service located him about 2.5 miles from the trailhead. He was stabilized and carried out on a rescue litter, arriving at the trailhead at 7:20 p.m.
