On September 23, 2026, John Campbell, 69, of North Woodstock, collapsed from an unknown medical event while hiking with his wife on the Mt. Willard Trail in Carroll. Passing hikers began CPR and 911 was called, and responders including Twin Mountain Fire and EMS, AMC personnel, and PEMISAR volunteers attempted lifesaving efforts. All efforts failed and the hiker died at the scene.
