Gerard Perron, 63, of Claremont, NH

Gerard Perron, 63, of Claremont, NH, left home about 3 p.m. on May 1, 2009 to drive to Franconia Notch to hike and fish, planning to return Sunday. When he did not show up for work Monday, his daughter reported him missing, and searchers located his car at a trailhead parking lot in Franconia Notch State Park. With only a very general itinerary left behind, an extensive search was underway canvassing area trails, streams, and drainages as of the release.

What we can learn

Leave a detailed trip itinerary (specific trailhead, route, and turnaround time) with someone before heading out, so searchers are not forced to canvass an entire area.
